What are CLEP Tests?

The College-Level Examination Program CLEP is the most widely accepted credit-by-examination program in the United States today. When you Pass a CLEP Test, you earn 3 to 12 college credits toward your college degree for each CLEP you take. The credit is not a letter grade, nor does it count toward your GPA. It merely eliminates one to four classes you need to take in obtaining your college degree.

Most CLEP Tests are 90 minutes in length and consist of Multiple Choice Questions, (with a few tests having Fill-in-the-blanks, and English with an essay question. The Collegeboard, makers of the SAT make and Register you for the exams.

Who makes up the CLEP Tests? CLEPs are made by College Professors around the country who have researched the essence of a College Class among various Colleges and Universities to insure if you know what you would learn in a more expensive and usually overcrowded classroom. CLEP tests allow you to earn more credit per semester, while studying at your own pace and style, and allows you more time for the Courses you want to take in a classroom.

Many find the self-structured approach to earning college credit more satisfying for the Core Classes and Electives and Major Courses in-class when available. Does My College accept CLEPs
CLEP's are accepted as College Credit at over 2900 Colleges and Universities and can be taken at over 1400 Colleges and Universities in the US.
Call your school and ask for Continuing Ed or Independent Study or click here. Or Ask Your Counselor what CLEP courses they accept. Search Colleges by state

Where to Take a CLEP Test
As of 2002, Collegeboard states there are over 1400 places in the US to take a CLEP. List

CLEPs are pass/fail. Find out the Minimum score you need from the school and take Practice Tests until you achieve a score indicating you will pass. Some Practice tests are much more indicative of what is on the test than others. 3. Call the CLEPs Test Center several weeks before or longer if you need a special date to schedule your test.4.
